Apprentice Animal Care Keeper
(with exotic bird/small animal experience)
Detailed description:
Miami Seaquarium is now hiring for a full time Animal Keeper.
This person is responsible for all daily care of a variety of different animals including Exotic Birds, West Indian Manatees, White Tail Deer, and a variety of different reptiles. Daily activities include preparing food and feeding of different animals, exhibit cleaning and maintenance, sanitizing animal and food prep areas, participate in guest relations/interactions and perform public presentations, monitor the health of the animals, maintain a safe working environment, participate in rehabilitation and husbandry sessions using operant conditioning and enrichment, effectively communicate with management, able to work in extreme environments, work weekends, nights, and holidays, and most importantly, have a positive attitude and be able to work in a team environment.

Qualifications:

18 years or older

2 or 4 year degree in biology or related field

Speak fluent English

Ability to lift 50 lbs.
SCUBA certification is REQUIRED at time of application submission. Applicants without SCUBA certification will not be considered. Upon accepting position, applicants must be able to provide written documentation from a physician stating that applicant is fit to dive on a daily basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidate with previous bird and small animal handling experience/training
Compensation:
Salary starts at $9.00 per hour with benefits
