Teen Leadership Course

Are you a high school student interested in environmental stewardship, community service hours and a great resume builder? This month long course is for you! Miami Seaquarium will be offering our NEW Reef Ranger Leadership course to teenager’s ages 13-18 years old who are interested in marine conservation and how they can become active environmental members in their community. There will be a total of 8 course meetings throughout the month.

By the end of this course, you will:

• Be a leader in your community, educating peers on local conservation issues
• Be knowledgeable on local endangered species and the conservation efforts in place to protect them
• Understand the importance of the 3 R’s, different ways to live sustainably and how this connects to our environment
• Gain experience in the marine conservation field to put on your resume

2019 Course Dates:

• January 9 – 30
• March 6 - 20

Tentative schedule:

• Wednesday night @ 6:00 PM - Meeting 1: Reef Ranger overview; the 3 R’s & living sustainably
• Saturday - Field trip 1: Recycling plant tour
• Wednesday night @ 6:00 PM Meeting 2: Florida’s endangered species & conservation efforts
• Saturday - Field trip 2: MSQ & rescue/rehab
• Wednesday night @ 6:00 PM Meeting 3: local issues and solutions
• Saturday - Field trip 3: MUVE volunteer work day
• Wednesday night @ 6:00 PM Meeting 4: How can we as reef rangers protect and conserve our natural resources
• Saturday - Field trip 4: TBD

Cost of the Program: The course fee is $150

How to Apply

Please fill out the application form as well as submit an essay (1 page max) answering the following questions:

1. What does conservation mean to you?
2. What are some things you actively do to take care of or protect your environment?
3. Why do you want to be a Reef Ranger Community Leader?
